Task 42: Evaluation of the pitch

I think in terms of presenting, it went well. We got through the presentation with no problems. However, I think we could have included more detail and involved things we did in our blogs into our presentation. This would have ensured that we would have included everything we need. We need to have a storyboard to show that we definitely know what we are doing exactly. We also need a production schedule because we need to know when the group are planning to meet up and where they are planning to film.

I focused on the film and the brief concept of our whole film and opening sequence. I think I could have made it clearer. I have an image in my head on how I want it to be but when I go to speak about it, it becomes more difficult to explain and harder to perceive.
I also focused on the titles and was able to get templates on what I want it to look like e.g. font size, colour and styles. I also focused on the representation and the fact that we are going to show elements different cultures and social lives. We are following the stereotypical elements of the two opposite social classes. Another thing I did was the titles. This is could show show many things.

Task 41: Pitch Feedback

A few things that haven't been included in the actual pitch presentation are on our blog. For example: type of title sequences, props and titles.

Pitch 14) Technology Skills Audit (Leilani)

In the past we have used Premiere Pro and After Effects. From this Adobe Software we learnt how to edit, cut and order the footage that we filmed in Premiere Pro. Once the first cut of the clip was made we learnt how to add text, colours and interesting graphics by using After Effects. Premiere Pro also allowed us to add music to our clip as a background noise and as the focal sound of the clip.

The Adobe Software has enabled us to plan our title sequence according to what is available to us. To reinforce the British Crime genre, we are planning on adding music to our sequence in order to create a more serious feel.

Pitch 13) Risk Assessment (Leilani)

Risk Assessment:
In the process of filming our title sequence we shouldn’t encounter any major risks.

In order to avoid the general risks of filming in public places we would need to pack away all equipment safely when travelling to and from filming locations.

Pitch 10) Title Credits (Cherise)

a. & c. I think our title credits will be integrated into our scenes. They will be bold white text for the title of the film. For the cast and crew, the text will also be white but the size will be smaller.

Ideas for title text:

I made this first one on the http://cooltext.com.

I made this second one on Microsoft Word. The font is Times New Roman.

For normal credits, it will be in all capitals and might also be in Times New Roman.

In the actual opening scene, it will not have that grey background.

b. The cast such as actors/actresses will match their characters on screen hopefully. But most of all, they will probably be placed where they aren't in the way of the action. They might be put in the corners of the screen. The film title will be put in the middle of the screen so the viewers will remember it.

Order of titles:

Distribution Company: Ultimatum Releasing

Pitch 9) Mise-En-Scene: Costumes and Makeup (Cherise)

Task 1:

Example 1:

Name of film: Frozen
Character name: Elsa
Her costume is a dress down the floor. It is bright blue and white. She also has a matching tiara which had the same bright coloured blue jewel in the centre of it. Her blonde hair is in a side braid. Her makeup contains purple eyeshadow and pink lipstick.

Example 2:

Name of film: Maleficent
Character name: Maleficent
Her makeup is bright red lipstick and very pale foundation. It also includes very dark contour and a dark smokey eye. Also, fake long eyelashes. Her costume is a black dress/cloak thing. She also has a staff and a headpiece which are also black. Her headpiece has horns like a ram. She has a black choker and her dress/cloak has collars.

Example 3:

Name of film: Child's Play
Character name: Chucky
He has his iconic red hair with his blue overalls that says 'Good Guys'. For his makeup, he has scars that have been stitched up. He has his red little trainers and his red, green, white, light blue and dark blue striped long sleeve shirt underneath his overalls.

Task 2:

As I am completing this task, I am wearing a black nike top and blue jeans. I have two rings on, one on my left hand and another on my right hand.
I think we will be wearing stereotypical costumes such as dark coloured tracksuits and trainers.

Task 3:

You would see a lot of teenagers with these type of trainers in London.
These Ralph Lauren shoes could be classified as middle class.
In London, you would typically see teenagers with these small side bags.

Pitch 8) Mise-En-Scene: Props (Ashleigh)

Mise-En-Scene: Props

We have chosen to use these four props to help represent our characters social group and give a general background of their lifestyles.

Prop one: Hoody
Where?: Characters will be wearing it throughout the opening
Why?: To show the stereotypes of our characters social group

Prop two: Rucksack
Where?: Match cut, short shot of it near the beginning of the opening
Why?: Again to show the stereotypes of this social group

Prop three: Fake gun
Where?: Match cut, short shot of it near the middle of the opening
Why?: Gives the feel of a real gang

Pitch 6) Audience detail (Ashleigh)

Target Audience

Based on our target audience research, our core target audience follows as:

Gender: Female
Age: 15-20
Region: London

Our wider target audience is focused around:

Gender: Female/Male
Age: 15-24
Region: Britain

We will attract our target audience through many different techniques.
One technique we will do this is by using up-beat  music. This will engage our audiences as young people of our target group typically tend to listen to more popular and up-beat music.
A second technique is by using relatable props to this social group. This will attract our target audience as the audience will feel like they can connect with the film.

Pitch 4) Representation (Ashleigh)

Representation

In our title sequence we will introduce a group of teenage girls.

The main social group we are focusing on is a young group of "typical" teenager girls in a gang.

We are representing this group stereotypically through the idea that all teenagers are "hooligans" and so on but alternating it slightly by changing the typical boy gangs to female gangs to suit our target audience a lot better.

Pitch 4) Representation (Cherise)

a. We will introduce the people in the girl gang. This can range from 2-4 characters being introduced in the opening.

b. We will definitely be showing social groups in our opening sequence which will include upper class and a lower social group. This is because we want to show that you don't have be in a low social group to be dragged into the world of crime. You can be rich and have loving family and friends which would be considered the 'perfect life' but still commit illegal offences.

c. We will be represented these groups stereotypically e.g. we will show higher name brand clothes, big houses, starbucks, fancy stores to represent the upper class. Upper class people might wear suits and ties. However, we might show a chicken & chip shop and an estate to show a lower social group. They might wear name brand tracksuits and trainers such as nike.

Pitch 3) Film Genre (Leilani)

The genre that we have chosen is British Crime Drama. We chose this genre because we wanted our film to be relatable to our target audience. We also found that playing teenagers were the easiest characters to portray as we can understand them and therefore make it convincing.

The first film that inspired the construction of our title sequence was Adulthood. In the opening scene of the film it shows brief shots of each character that was involved in the traumatic events of the previous film. We intend on using the idea of having shots of each of us leaving our houses, showing that we come from different backgrounds but we are all apart of the same group.

Even though it is not a British Crime Drama the second film that we looked at inspired the story line of our film and title sequence. From watching brief clips of Girlhood it seems like it is about a girl that gets involved in a girl gang. There is some sort of rivalry with a neighbouring gang and the film shows her story. What we have taken from this film is to have the plot of our film and title sequence to be about a group of girls that are involved in a gang showing their individual stories as to how they came to be in the gang and the struggles that they have to face.
