Question 7 - Evaluation

I forgot to mention hardware such as fig rigs. I learnt how to use new hardware such as attaching a camera to a fig rig and a tripod.

Rough Cut Evaluation

Order of the Title Sequence:
  • The order of our title sequence is chronological
  • We haven't included all of the shots that we had planned to
Quality of Camera Work:
  • A lot of the shots filmed are shaky or not straight
  • To prevent this we could use a fig rig when filming tracking shots and put the camera on a tripod and use the zoom settings
Variety of Shots:
  • Shots used were relevant to our theme
  • A wider range could have been used to create tension and build anticipation
  • There are not enough shots and angles for each movement
Use of Lighting:
  • We filmed during daylight hours so the lighting may have not depicted the entirety of the idea we were trying to convey
  • To improve we could film more of our shots in darker settings using tungsten lights or when it is cloudy
Performance:
  • We stayed in role during shots
  • We could have got more into the roles we were playing in order to portray the characters realistically
  • We could have done some research into the characteristics of the characters we were playing
Use of mise-en-scene:
  • I think we could have concentrated more on our surroundings, choosing a place that could be instantly related to our genre

SWOT Analysis

Strengths:

  • The analysis and general presentation of my work is clear
  • Most ideas are detailed and varied.

Weaknesses:

  • We should have shown a wider variety of ways to present our work
  • Not many visual prompts to help support our ideas.

Opportunities:

  • I think our film could be improved by:-
    • Use the correct equipment to film
    • Taking a greater advantage of the time provided for us to use resources
  • To improve our blog we should:-
    • Include more visual elements
    • Post more evidence of filming and editing.

Threats:

  • I wasn't confident with the genre or general idea of our title sequence as I do not experience with any of the main themes. This therefore made me hesitant to pursue the idea.
  • During the first weeks blogging my work went missing which was very discouraging and made it harder to be enthusiastic.

Evaluating the Rough Cut

1a) The order of the shots does make sense.
b) The order is the same as we had planned it. However, whilst editing we were supposed to have a split screen so you can see the contrast between the two characters social background better.

2) The quality of the camera work is pretty poor. The camera was shaky and we should have used a fig rig to record the scenes where the characters are walking. The camera was also not straight and the shots were diagonal and slanted. As we did use the zoom on the camera, sometimes the shots would get slightly blurred and out of focus.

3) We did try to use a variety of shots. I don't think we used them effectively though. The shots didn't fit as seamlessly as I would have hoped. We used: over the shoulder; mid-shot; wide-shot and close-ups.

4) We used the natural daylight. We didn't use the lighting to show different moods.

5) The location was Camden Town. The setting was modern and is set in the 21st century. We didn't get to use our props because we ran out of time. Our costumes were based on stereotypes. For example, the richer character was dressed in heels and a dress. The other character was dressed in all black and was trainers.
